A Statement of Purpose from the December 1972 issue of our newspaper Womankind says it all,
“The Chicago Women’s Liberation Union is a radical women’s liberation organization that is over three years old. We have over 300 members, and many different programs aimed at changing the lives of all women and building a new society in which all people will have the opportunity to develop their full potential.”
The CWLU links different projects and arenas of rights and justice and sees them as part of the struggle for women’s equality and social justice. We care about the war, issues of race, economic justice and democracy as well as women’s rights. Thus, we at the Union — even though we are a separate, autonomous women’s organization— see ourselves as part of a larger social movement.
